Karen Sonnier
OTR
I am a first-generation Mexican American, My family and I immigrated to the States when I was three years old. I was born in Southern California and raised in Southeast Texas. My parents are small business owners with humble beginnings. I was the first in my family to pursue higher education.
I completed my undergraduate studies at McNeese State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine, and went on to graduate school at the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor in Central Texas, where I earned my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.
Core Values: Dignity of the Human Person, Service through Skill, and Compassionate Presence
“In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.”
– Mother Teresa
I chose occupational therapy because I’ve always had a deep desire to support people through life’s most vulnerable moments.
I love working with my fellow girls! It is so nice to be supported by women who are in a similar stage of life and understand the depths of motherhood, specifically the work-life balance! Thrive allows me to do work that I am passionate about while also prioritizing my family. Thrive also supports my personal and professional growth by paving the way to new areas of practice such as our In-home services- to help bridge the gap between hospital discharge and full postpartum recovery.
Karen’s Favorites:
- Movies: Romantic comedies
- TV Shows: Friends, Yellowstone, Grey’s Anatomy
When I’m not working I am usually with my husband, toddler and baby girl. We love to spend time with family and attend community events. I love to Thrift and enjoy brunch dates! I am a big foodie. I also enjoy hiking and outdoor sports but this season of life is all about my babies.
