How many of you experience knee pain?
You know, the kind that stops you from going up and down the stairs, keeps you from doing the things you love, hurts every time you bend over, and the kind that just leaves you frustrated, just hoping that today it will be gone.
If this sounds like you, you’re not alone.
We see so many people at Thrive with knee pain, and they come to us because they’re frustrated and looking for answers.
Some people think that knee pain is just something that happens because you’re getting old, or a friend or a family member has told you that it’s just something you have to live with.
Some people think that the knee pain is just going to go away and magically disappear one morning, but it usually lingers a lot longer than they expect.
Sometimes, your knee pain could be caused by something that you’re doing in your daily life that you don’t even realize.
That’s why we’re here, to give you four simple ideas to help decrease or eliminate your knee pain.
1. Not Taking it TOO Easy
We’ve all heard that rest is the best medicine, but that’s not always the case. Our bodies are designed to move, and that’s how our joints get their nutrition. We’re not made to just sit on the sofa. So, what we want to do is find activities that allow us to get some movement in comfortably, which leads us to our next point.
2. Avoiding High-Impact Activities
If you’ve always done high-impact activities for exercise, such as running or jumping activities or high intensity training, and now you experience pain with them, it may be a good idea to find something that’s a little less stressful on your joints.
Some of these activities include swimming or biking, or just going for a brisk walk. We know that exercise is needed to for our health and wellbeing. We just need to make sure it’s an activity that doesn’t make us feel worse or have more pain after.
3. Wearing Proper Footwear
A lot of people don’t realize that it could be the actual shoes that you’re wearing that are causing your knee pain. We’ve all heard about high heels and how that can cause a lot of stress on your knees, but what a lot of people don’t realize is that not wearing enough cushion in your shoes can also cause a lot of stress on your knees. It’s important to get the right amount of cushion and the right amount of support in order for your shoe to be able to absorb that impact every time you take a step.
These are just some suggestions for you, but of course, we know that everybody’s different.
4. Scheduling an Appointment with a Specialist
Schedule to see someone that can evaluate and help identify the actual reason for your knee pain. It could be something up higher in the chain, like your hips, or something lower in your chain, like your ankle, and it’s important to get that checked out so you can be able to continue your life without knee pain.
If you have any further questions, we’d love to talk with you and discuss the options that you have to eliminate your knee pain, and that way, we can help you move more and live better so you can go back to doing the things that you love.
